There is no substitute for experience.
Skills develop and evolve over time.
There is no such thing as one “correct” technique.
Join us this fall. These clinics are open to all skill levels. Check the USAV Age Definition Chart to ensure that you are signed up for the right age group. Note, we generally encourage players to stay with their peer group. For example, if you are young for your grade, stay with your grade (e.g., we recommend all 9th graders who are age-eligible to play on a 14’s team stay with the 15’s age group).
NPJ Salem’s fall Sunday clinics are designed to closely simulate the demands of the competitive volleyball performance environment. In each session, we apply a representative learning design to ensure maximal opportunities for learning, improvement, and transfer. Our coaches are trained to help guide athletes and their attention to key information in the environment. This combination of guided-discovery and representative learning design helps athletes learn to detect critical information sources in the game. Our clinics offer a type of practice that maximizes repetition without repetition. Participants learn by doing (a.k.a. experiential learning), and by interacting with an opponent. The goal is to help athletes perform and achieve consistent outcomes and positive results. Players are free to learn to make their own decisions, explore various movement solutions, and adapt to different situations in the game. The old approach to coaching focuses on teaching players the one “correct” way to swing their arm, hold their hands, or move their feet. The new, and more effective, approach to coaching focuses on strengthening the athletes’ functionally adaptable relationship between their own action capabilities and the varying demands of the game.
