2024 Portland Summer Academy

NPJ Fall Academy Programs for Middle School-High School volleyball players (All Ages)

Sessions trained by NPJ 18 National coach Eric Leibbrandt

NPJ Portland is offering two levels of academy training.

LOCATION: Rose City Futsal - West

Middle School Volleyball Academy

(6-8th grade)

Wednesday's & Friday's

5:00pm-7:00pm

June | July | August

Our Middle School Volleyball Academy is meant for rising 6th graders and higher (ages 12 and up) who may still be new to volleyball or have played for a couple seasons at the BNG, YMCA, or local club (or equivalent) level. Participants at this level have a moderate understanding of the rules, team organization, and volleyball strategy.

Our Middle School Volleyball Academy is great for those who hope to improve or advance their skills, but still enjoy the social aspect. This program is a great fit for those who aspire to play for their school, are beginning to excel at the sport, and could see themselves playing for a long time.

Our coaches regularly seek feedback from participants and ask for their input on what they want to work on. Engaging participants in the decision-making process is part of our athlete-centered coaching philosophy, and helps us draw out maximal effort, interest, motivation, and engagement from each participant. Our coaches are trained to meet players where they are at, while helping them find the inner desire, passion, and persistence that is needed to get good at something. Having fun is still the primary focus. Skill development is emphasized over competition or results. Activities are adapted or modified where appropriate to promote success, build confidence, and stretch current abilities.

- Feedback is kept simple and focused on what changes need to be made rather than on what was done incorrectly.
- Our coaches use positive feedback so that unsuccessful attempts are viewed as learning and not as failure situations.
- Our coaches adjust the learning environments to match the capabilities of the participants. This has been shown to have a strong and positive influence on their “readiness” to acquire new skills.

High School Volleyball Academy

(9th - 12th grade)

Wednesday's & Friday's

5:00pm - 7:00pm

June | July | August

Our Advanced Volleyball Academy option is for more experienced players with at least 1-2 years of club volleyball playing experience, a minimum of 3 total years of volleyball playing experience (playing experience could include YMCA, Bend Parks & Rec, or School volleyball).

Our Advanced Volleyball Academy is great for those who are determined to improve both their skills and knowledge of the game. This program is a great fit for those who are trying out for their school teams in the Fall, are trying to make a National level club team next year, and could see themselves playing for a long time.
