Melissa Salness - 14 National Head Coach

I was born and raised in Roseburg OR, starting club in 6th grade and continuing through high school with Webfoot Juniors. I stayed home to attend Umpqua CC and played my first two years there, then transferred to Pacific University to finish my career as a student athlete.

Growing up, I also swam competitively and played tennis. I swam through college as well, and picked up handball along the way. Fun fact: I’m a NCAA division 1 national champion at handball!

After graduation in 2015, I started coaching varsity volleyball at Century High School in Hillsboro. I spent 7 seasons there, finishing my last season as coach of the year in the Pacific Conference and making a playoff appearance for the first time in 10+ years. Last year I served as an assistant at Linfield University in McMinnville.

My husband is also a varsity volleyball coach, so when our first kiddo came around and we were both busy with schedules, I decided to step away from high school and continue with club only.

This will be my 5th season with NPJ! My first 4 seasons were spent down in Salem with ages ranging from 12-18.

Most notably, the year I coached 12s was the year they went to nationals. Super fun!

Currently, I live in Sherwood with my husband Thomas, 2.5 year old daughter Olivia, and 2 month old son Jackson! Life is busy right now but we are blessed.

Volleyball is MY LIFE and I’m thankful I get to share my passion with others. NPJ is the best and I’m so happy to be on this journey!
