Austin Tieu - 16 National Head Coach

Austin is entering his fourth year at NPJ Portland (and the only coach that can say that!). In his first season, the Portland 16-1 team ended as the most improved team in CEVA, jumping from 47th to 19th and moving up every power league. This past year, he led NPJ Portland's first 17 National team. Before NPJ, Austin first started coaching for CYO's Valley Catholic team. He then became Wave VBC's 16-3 head coach for two years before moving to YVBA and head coaching the 16-1's team.

As a player, he started playing for the Oregon State club team and was libero/setter for four years. In 2013, the team won gold at NCVF Nationals. He continues to play recreationally around the Portland area.

In his free time, he likes to golf, play sports, and spend time with his wife Alex, dog (Dash), cat (Hercules). He also enjoys watching high school volleyball games in the fall to support his former players. If you see him out and about, don't hesitate to say hi!

Austin strives to create an inclusive and competitive environment, where every player is given the opportunities to grow and work towards becoming better players and people outside of volleyball.

Emily Cheavtharn - 16 National Assistant Coach

Emily grew up in Salem, Oregon, where she played high school volleyball at West Salem High School and club volleyball at NPJ Salem for five years as a national level player. She moved on to play volleyball at Pacific University and is in her senior season this year.

As a coach, she began at NPJ Salem for two years before moving to NPJ Portland where she coaches indoor and sand. Last season, she was head coach of the 12 National team and is excited to be back!
